Description
Seth Lover’s original PAF humbucker wasn’t just a pickup design — it was a happy accident of soft magnets, hand-guided winding, and a bit of luck. DiMarzio chased that lightning by tearing down Larry DiMarzio’s own 1959 cherry sunburst Les Paul and using it as the literal blueprint for this set. The result: two pickups that behave like the genuine article, not a spec-sheet approximation.
The DP103BK Neck model runs a deliberately weak magnetic field so strings ring out longer and pick attack does more of the tonal work than the magnet does. Computer-controlled winders lay down 42-gauge custom-coated wire with vintage-level consistency, and each coil gets dipped to kill squeal and microphonics before the nickel-silver cover — specially plated to stay magnetically transparent — goes on. It’s warm without turning to mud, and holds its own whether it’s sitting in the neck or bridge slot.
The DP223BK Bridge is the hotter half of the pair, built for players who want PAF character with more push. It splits cleanly on the 4-conductor wiring for a bright, musical single-coil voice that never goes thin or sterile — think the low-end heft of a Virtual PAF Bridge crossed with the volume of a Virtual Hot PAF.
Both pickups ship in black covers and wired 4-conductor (1-conductor optional) for maximum wiring flexibility. This bundle also includes a free set of D’Addario EXL115 Medium strings, so once you’ve got the set installed, you’re ready to plug in and go.
