Description
The Crunch Lab is what happens when a progressive metal virtuoso and a pickup obsessed with articulation team up. Developed alongside John Petrucci for Dream Theater’s “Black Clouds & Silver Linings,” this bridge humbucker was built to keep dense, technical riffing clear at high gain without losing the low-end weight that makes it hit hard.
The ceramic magnet gives it focus and bite, while the 4-conductor wiring means you can wire it for series, parallel, or split configurations depending on how you want to sculpt the tone. With a healthy output of 410mV and 11.03 kOhm DC resistance, it’s hot enough to push your amp into saturation but voiced tight enough that palm-muted chugs and fast alternate picking stay defined instead of collapsing into mush.
This F-spaced version is built for guitars with floating or trem bridges where string spacing is wider, so the pole pieces line up correctly under each string for even output. Petrucci has called it the best live and studio tone he’s found, and it’s easy to hear why once you drop it into the bridge position and start digging in.
