Description
Born out of two years of chasing the right sound for Steve Vai’s Ibanez JEMs, the Evolution Bridge pickup isn’t built to play nice. Where the companion neck model goes fat and punchy, this bridge unit is voiced tight, aggressive, and even louder — a pickup for players with the technique and the amp gain to back it up.
Under the hood is DiMarzio’s patented dual-resonance design, which pulls more harmonic overtones out of the string than a standard humbucker. That translates to a pickup that stays articulate at high gain instead of collapsing into mush, with enough presence and definition to cut through a dense mix in the studio just as effectively as it cuts through a band onstage.
Key specs:
- Ceramic magnet for a tight, aggressive, high-output voice
- 4-conductor wiring for coil-split and phase flexibility
- DC resistance: 13.84 kOhm
- No quick-connect — standard 4-wire hookup
- Recommended for the bridge position in solid body electric guitars
- Introduced in 1993 as part of the original Evolution set
This isn’t a polite, all-purpose pickup — it’s built for shredders and hot-amp players who want their bridge tone to burn. If that’s you, the Evolution Bridge in white will get you there.
