Description
Born from two years of chasing the exact sound Steve Vai wanted out of his Ibanez JEMs, the Evolution set is built for players who want their amp pushed hard and their notes to cut clean through a wall of gain. Both the DP158FW neck and DP159FW bridge use DiMarzio’s dual-resonance design, which pulls out more harmonic overtones than a standard humbucker — the result is a voice that feels more alive and vocal under high-gain and lead work.
- DP158FW Neck: fat, punchy, and loud, with plenty of low-end grind to balance the bridge
- DP159FW Bridge: tighter, more aggressive, and louder still — built to slice, not sit back
- F-spaced coils for correct pole-piece alignment under strings on trem-equipped or Floyd-style bridges
- 4-conductor wiring on both pickups for coil-splitting, phase, and series/parallel wiring options
These aren’t polite pickups, and they’re not aimed at beginners — they’re voiced for players with the technique and the amp to back them up. Originally engineered for the chaos of live gigs, the Evolution set has enough clarity and presence to hold its own in the studio too, staying defined even in a dense mix.
This set arrives in white and includes a free set of Elixir Super Light guitar strings, so you can get the whole rig sounding right from the first plug-in.
