Description
Born from two years of chasing the exact snarl Steve Vai wanted out of his Ibanez JEMs, the Evolution set trades polite PAF manners for something far more aggressive. This is a matched neck/bridge pair, both F-spaced for trem-routed bridges, both dressed in white plastic, and both built around DiMarzio’s patented dual-resonance coil design that pulls extra harmonic overtones out of the string compared to a conventional humbucker.
The DP158FW neck pickup is fat and punchy with real low-end push, giving lead lines a thick, vocal quality without turning to mud. The DP159FW bridge is voiced tighter and hotter, with more bite and output to cut ahead of the neck for solos. Both use ceramic magnets and 4-conductor wiring, so you’ve got the flexibility to wire in coil-splits or phase switching if your build allows for it.
- Neck (DP158FW): 4-conductor wiring, ceramic magnet, 294mV output, 13.04 Kohm DC resistance
- Bridge (DP159FW): 4-conductor wiring, ceramic magnet, 404mV output, 13.84 Kohm DC resistance
These aren’t subtle pickups — they’re built for players who dig in hard through a cranked amp and want every harmonic to scream back at them. Recording engineers love them too, since that same aggressive definition slices cleanly through a busy mix instead of disappearing into it.
This set ships with a free pack of D’Addario NYXL1046 Regular Light strings, so you can get your new pickups strung up and dialed in right away.
