Description
Born from Steve Vai’s ongoing quest for the perfect tonal vocabulary, the Gravity Storm Neck pickup takes its name from a track on Steve Vai: The Story of Light. Vai stopped talking about pickups in terms of frequency curves years ago — now it’s all flavor and texture, and this one’s a distinct combination: sweet, warm sweetness up front, with a textured edge that keeps things from ever going soft.
What makes it work is the blend of humbucker girth with a surprising amount of single-coil snap. You get the low-end weight and noise-cancelling stability of a full humbucker, but there’s a bite and articulation in the attack that usually belongs to coils, not buckers. It’s a neck pickup that won’t disappear into mush when you dig in — chords stay defined, leads stay vocal.
Ceramic magnet, 4-conductor wiring for full coil-splitting and phase flexibility, moderate output for clarity without losing sustain.
- Wiring: 4-conductor
- Magnet: Ceramic
- Output: 290 mV
- DC Resistance: 12.56 kOhm
Finished in black, built for players chasing Vai’s own signature blend of warmth and edge in the neck position.
