Description
The EMG 58 is a bit of an oddball in EMG’s active lineup—one of their earliest humbucker designs, originally shelved for being noisier than the company’s later, quieter offerings. But that vintage quirk comes bundled with genuinely great tone: fat, round, and packed with the kind of loose, organic character that made early humbucker designs so appealing in the first place.
Output-wise, the 58 punches well above typical passive pickups, landing in P-90 territory for growl and grind, but without the boxy midrange congestion that can plague single-coils pushed hard. That makes it a natural choice for rhythm and blues players chasing warmth and body rather than scooped, hi-fi clarity. If you want a humbucker that leans vintage in attitude while still running active electronics, the 58 splits that difference nicely.
This listing is for the Black cover cap version—Ivory and White are also available if you’re matching hardware or just have a preference.
