Description
Before Slash ever put his name on a pickup, he was already leaning on one very special Les Paul for nearly every record since 1986. The APH-2 Alnico II Pro Slash humbucker set was built to close the gap between his “live guitars” and that legendary studio axe — giving any Les Paul the same sustain-heavy growl fans have chased for decades.
Seymour Duncan started with the familiar Alnico 2 magnet recipe from the standard APH-1, then wound the coils a touch hotter. That extra push is what nudges a stock Les Paul from clean-ish humbucker territory into Slash’s signature zone — sweet, singing sustain on one side, rude crunch on the other. Underneath, you’ll find the same construction details pulled straight from his original ’86 pickups: a single-conductor cable, a long-legged bottom plate, and a wooden spacer. These aren’t reverse-engineered guesses — this is the same pickup set Gibson installs in its current Slash signature Les Paul.
- Alnico 2 magnets with moderate, boosted output
- Warm humbucker voicing suited to classic rock, blues, and jazz
- Single-conductor cable, long-legged baseplate, wooden spacer construction
- Hand-built in Seymour Duncan’s Santa Barbara, California workshop
- Includes all mounting hardware
- Recommended for neck and bridge positions
Drop the full set into any well-balanced humbucker guitar — Les Paul, semi-hollow, or hollow body — and it’ll behave. Pair it with a warm overdrive or tube-driven distortion for that unmistakable lead voice. This bundle also includes a free set of Ernie Ball Slinky strings, so you can get the whole rig dialed in without a second order.
