Description
Seymour Duncan built the High Voltage set for guitarists chasing that elusive middle ground: amp-driven hard rock grit on one side, glassy clean headroom on the other. It’s the kind of pickup that lets your playing dynamics – not your pedalboard – decide how aggressive things get.
Under the hood, these humbuckers lean on classic Alnico 2 magnets, the same choice that’s fueled decades of vintage-flavored tone. But Seymour Duncan wound them a touch hotter than a traditional Alnico 2 design, pushing the voicing into more aggressive territory and opening up a wider sonic gap between neck and bridge. The bridge pickup has been degaussed as part of the calibration process, so the whole set arrives balanced and ready to work together rather than fighting for the same frequency space.
The result is a humbucker that covers real ground:
- Tight, articulate low-end for palm-muted riffing and chunky chord work
- Clear, expressive rhythm tone that doesn’t turn to mud under gain
- Screaming, sustain-heavy lead voice when you dig in
- Surprisingly clean cleans when you back off the amp gain
If your rig’s tone comes primarily from pickups and tube saturation rather than a chain of stompboxes, the High Voltage set is built exactly for that approach – old-school magnet DNA with a wind that’s ready to rock. Finished in black.
