Description
P-90s have always been a devil’s bargain: you get that gnarly midrange growl and open, woody clarity, but you also inherit 60-cycle hum the second you step outside a quiet studio. Jared James Nichols got tired of that tradeoff, so he worked with Seymour Duncan to build the P-90 Silencer — a soapbar pickup that keeps the attitude and loses the noise floor.
This neck-position Silencer is voiced to nail the full P-90 vocabulary. Dig in for Jared’s signature blues-power grind, or back off the pick attack for clean tones that stay glassy and articulate rather than thin. Where it separates itself from a vintage-style P-90 is headroom under gain: push it into heavier, higher-output territory and it stays composed, with none of the squeal or hum that would normally creep in on a traditional single-coil under those conditions.
Housed in a black soapbar cover for the classic P-90 look, this pickup is built for players who want the character without the compromise — whether you’re chasing raunchy blues-rock tones, articulate cleans, or pushing further into rock and hard rock territory than a standard P-90 could comfortably go.
