Description
If your Jazzmaster feels a little thin under gain, the Quarter-Pound bridge is Seymour Duncan’s answer. It’s still a genuine single-coil – none of the humbucker wiring tricks – but the quarter-inch diameter magnets and custom coil wind pack in a lot more punch than a standard single-coil pole piece setup, giving you a fuller low end and noticeably more output on the top strings too.
Compared to Duncan’s own Vintage (SJM-1) and Hot (SJM-2) Jazzmaster pickups, the Quarter-Pound sits at the top of the output range, with extra drive and sustain that lead players will appreciate when digging in for solos. Expect it to cover blues, classic rock, garage, and push comfortably into heavier territory – classic metal and nu-metal tones are well within reach.
A few practical notes:
- Sold uncovered – no cover included
- Also offered as a matched neck/bridge set
- The matching neck pickup is reverse-wound/reverse-polarity, so pairing them creates a humbucking effect in the middle position
- Many players instead pair this bridge pickup with the SJM-2 Hot neck for a wider spread of tonal options
Whether you’re chasing garage-rock snarl or heavier riffing, this is a straightforward way to get real single-coil character with the low-end weight and output of something much bigger.
