The SH-8 Invader is Seymour Duncan’s answer to players who need every ounce of output a passive pickup can muster. Three ceramic magnets stacked together create an unusually wide, dense magnetic field, while the overwound coils push power output well past typical humbucker territory. Twelve black oxide cap screws hold it all together and add to the pickup’s brutal, no-nonsense aesthetic.
This is a pickup engineered for aggression – think metal, thrash, punk, and garage rock where clarity takes a backseat to sheer force. Dropped tunings and high-gain amps are where the Invader really earns its name, driving front-end distortion into overdrive without losing definition in the low end.
Wired with a four-conductor hookup cable, the SH-8 gives you the flexibility to split coils or wire it up however your setup demands. While the Invader is available for both neck and bridge positions, the bridge version reviewed here is by far the most popular choice – the neck variant is intentionally wound with reduced output to balance out the pairing.
