Description
Seymour Duncan built the Pearly Gates to chase a very specific ghost: the pickups loaded into a ’59 Les Paul Standard that helped define the rebellious, sun-baked sound of Texas blues-rock. This reverse zebra humbucker lands right where you want it — a touch hotter than a true vintage wind, but never sacrificing the warmth and dynamic feel that made those old PAFs so addictive.
Dig into a chord and you’ll notice the character right away: sweet on top, with a slightly impertinent edge that keeps things interesting. Harmonics leap out with surprising clarity, sustain holds on for days, and the bright top end cuts through a mix without ever turning brittle or harsh. It’s the kind of pickup that rewards dynamics — clean up your picking and it cleans up with you; dig in and it growls.
- Warm, slightly-hotter-than-vintage humbucker voicing
- Suited to blues, classic rock, southern rock, jam bands, and hard rock
- Ships with four-conductor hookup cable for full coil-splitting flexibility
- Commonly installed in either the neck or bridge position, and often both
- Shines on brighter-voiced guitars, especially those with maple or ebony fingerboards
- Equally at home in hollow and semi-hollow bodies
If your guitar already leans bright and articulate, the Pearly Gates gives it the low-end warmth and midrange push it’s been missing — without losing an ounce of clarity.
