Description
The SH-PG1N and SH-PG1B Pearly Gates set was born from a mission: reverse-engineer the pickups hiding in a ’59 Les Paul Standard that gave Texas blues-rock its raw, snarling edge. Seymour Duncan nailed it, and then some. This is a warm humbucker with a touch more output than true vintage-spec units, so it keeps that classic sweetness while pushing back a little harder when you dig in.
What sets Pearly Gates apart is the top end. It stays bright and articulate even under gain, letting pinch harmonics leap out rather than getting swallowed by the midrange. Sustain is excellent, and the overall character sits somewhere between polite vintage chime and outright rock aggression, which is exactly why it’s a go-to for blues, classic rock, southern rock, jam band, and hard rock players alike.
Each pickup ships with four-conductor hookup cable, so you’ve got the flexibility to wire in coil-splitting, phase switching, or series/parallel options if your guitar’s wiring allows it. The set is commonly installed in both neck and bridge positions for a matched, cohesive voice across the whole guitar.
Tonally, Pearly Gates favors brighter-sounding instruments. It’s an especially good match for guitars with maple or ebony fingerboards, and it also performs beautifully in hollow and semi-hollow bodies where that extra clarity helps cut through without losing warmth.
