Description
Built around vintage examples Michael Landau handed over from his own collection, the ML Classic set is Suhr’s answer to the question of what the best old single-coils actually sounded like — not the average ones, the great ones. John Suhr picked apart the winds, magnets, and construction of Landau’s favorites and translated that into a calibrated three-pickup set that stays articulate at the top end while keeping the low end tight and full, rather than loose or boomy like a lot of vintage-style pickups can get.
Each position is wound to its own spec rather than treated as one generic pickup repeated three times. The bridge is wound hotter for extra push into your amp on leads, while the neck and middle pickups sit slightly lower in output to keep that classic in-between clarity. The middle pickup is also reverse-wound/reverse-polarity (RWRP), so positions 2 and 4 on a standard five-way switch come out hum-cancelling — quiet single-coil tone without giving up the sparkle.
This set is finished in parchment covers for a period-correct look on the right build.
- DC Resistance: 6.5K ohms (bridge), 6.0K ohms (neck and middle)
- Middle pickup wound RWRP for hum-cancelling switch positions
- Parchment pickup covers
- Designed by John Suhr with input from Michael Landau
From searing, fat lead tones to glassy rhythm work, this set is built to cover the full range of what a great single-coil guitar should do.
