Description
If your ear keeps drifting back to the era of towering amp stacks and blues-drenched rock solos, the V70 neck pickup is built to meet you there. Suhr designed this single coil to capture the specific magic of early 70s tone chasing: not the glassy chime of earlier decades, but something a little rounder, a little more aggressive, with the headroom to handle heavier riffing without losing its voice.
Each V70 is hand-built using Suhr’s proprietary winding process, wound with plain enamel wire over specially formulated Alnico V magnets and finished with vintage-correct gray fiber bottoms. The modified staggered pole piece layout evens out the magnetic field across the strings, so multi-step bends stay balanced and singing rather than falling flat under one string and blaring under another. As a nice side effect, that staggered design also plays well with the flatter fretboard radius found on a lot of modern necks.
Tonally, expect a pickup that responds to touch dynamics rather than flattening them out. Lows stay tight and snappy, highs shimmer without turning brittle or harsh, and the overall balance leans musical rather than shrill, ideal for stacking gain or riding a clean tone with real texture.
