Description
W.L. Van Zandt didn’t set out to build a pickup company — he was a machinist and country guitarist in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area who started rewinding magnets for buddies back in the 1960s. Word spread, and decades later his hand-built pickups are still made the same unhurried, ear-first way in Texas.
The Blues Model is his answer to players who want classic Strat character without losing bite. It leans into a rounder midrange than a stock single-coil, but doesn’t trade away the top-end air that makes a Strat sound like a Strat — think warm and woody one moment, glassy and cutting the next, depending on how you dig in.
- Voiced specifically for blues phrasing and dynamics
- Highly touch-sensitive — cleans up with a light pick hand, snaps and grits up under a heavy attack
- Swings from mellow to bright based purely on playing style, not just knob settings
Drop it into the neck or bridge position and let your hands do the tone-shaping instead of a pedal.
